Tom and the Shepway Lib Dem Team say "Thank You" to central Folkestone voters

Shepway Lib Dems - Central By-Election 2014

Tom McNeice and the Shepway Lib Dem Team would like to thank everyone who voted in the by-election in Harvey Central Ward last Thursday.

In a hard fought race UKIP managed to elect their first and only District Councillor onto Shepway District Council, amid a low turnout and a huge swing away from the Conservatives to both UKIP and the Lib Dems (who came third on around 20% of the vote). Labour, the Greens and TUSC also stood candidates, coming 4th, 5th and 6th respectively.

The result will be seen as a damning indictment of the behaviour of Conservative run Shepway District Council during the past few years. The Conservatives, who have introduced unpopular parking charges among numerous bad decisions since 2010 (such as the appointment of the controversial fag butt police), are widely expected to lose seats next May when the next Council elections take place.

Commenting on the result, Tom said:

"Thank you so much to everyone who supported me during the campaign and who voted for me on the day. We didn't quite manage the result we wanted on Thursday, but this is definitely something we can build on for the future."
