Well-known local personality Tom McNeice will be the Lib Dem candidate to be the new Councillor for Folkestone Harvey Central in the by-election on September 4th.

The by-election was called following the resignation of Conservative Councillor David Johnson after a local newspaper investigation into debts of £17,000.

Tom, who was Folkestone Town Mayor 2010-11, said:

"Folkestone is a wonderful town that has been badly let down by Shepway District Council. This area is literally the heart of Folkestone and should be the smartest, safest and cleanest part of town - I'll fight tooth and nail to make it that way".

Lynne Beaumont, high profile Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for Folkestone & Hythe said:

"In so many ways, Tom IS Mr Folkestone and I know he'll fight tirelessly to get Folkestone Central a better deal."

Lynne Beaumont appealed to local people "if you never vote or you've never voted Lib Dem before please back Tom. Folkestone needs a champion like Tom and I hope local people will give him the backing he deserves".
