Trading Standards Alert - Financial Information

28 Jul 2009

An elderly consumer received a phone call from someone claiming to be from Lloyds Bank (who the consumer banks with) requesting her debit card details. Unfortunately the consumer gave the information to them, shortly after this phone call she received a letter saying they would assist the consumer in gaining charges back from the bank that had been wrongly charged.

The consumer has not had any issues with the bank over charges, but since this incident this traders has taken £50 from the consumers account.

Kent Trading Standards advise all consumers' to be very vigilant when receiving phone calls requesting personal and financial data and not to give any information. Genuine banks and building societies will already have your details and will not need to contact you to obtain them.

If you have experienced a similar issue and would like to report it please contact Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06.
