Just Rubbish: In over 4 weeks, Shellons Street Car Park remains littered, overgrown and grafittied

In late June, the Lib Dem Team reported a spot check on a Folkestone Town Centre car park which confirmed the decline in Folkestone - and over one month on, the SAME problems - and in many places the SAME LITTER - are still there!

Shellons Street car park near Guildhall Street was selected at random for the late June spot check, but revealed at least seven major issues with the state of the car park, from litter to graffiti, uncut verges to damaged kerbs.

The full survey revealed:

  • Graffiti on walls and signs
  • Litter dating back days and weeks in places
  • Damaged, faded and missing sign
  • Damaged kerbs
  • Weeds and verges growing out of control
  • Conflicting and inaccurate signs

Folkestone Town Councillor Tim Prater rechecked the Car Park this morning, and found all the same problems, but with the litter WORSE in places. Tim Prater gave his findings this morning to Shepway Council Officer Jeff Stack.

Tim Prater said:

"The state of Folkestone Town Centre is a disgrace. Shellons Street Car Park is one example we've highlighted, but there are more than you can can count - and local people are reporting more all the time.

"Shepway should stop hiding behind contracts, staff problems, broken machines and other excuses and ENSURE their contractors are cleaning Folkestone properly. Shepway get paid OUR Council Tax to clean local streets, pavements and car parks, but are failing Folkestone badly."
