Flashback: Tim Prater speaks to Meridian TV about the Truck Off campaign for Cheriton High Street in February 2006

Work has started to end the lorry parking problem in Cheriton High Street in Folkestone after years of campaigning from local residents and Lib Dems. The works should stop lorry parking in the slip road, which disturbed residents in Samian Crescent, Tiber Close and Roman Way.

Cheriton Councillor Peter Gane has welcomed the works. He said:

"We've been pushing for these works for so long, it's great that Kent County Council are finally taking action. I hope that we are only a few days away from the end of years of noise, disruption and rubbish for local residents and road users."

Cheriton Town Councillor Tim Prater said:

"This is a really welcome result, around a year after we started our high profile "Truck-off" campaign which aimed to give publicity to the problem of lorry parking on this stretch of Cheriton High Street, which has been causing disruption to local residents for too long.

"In order to make sure that the problem is actually dealt with and not moved to other sites however, there needs to be action to build a lorry parking facility by the M20. The Channel Corridor Partnership has started to work on this with a range of partners including local councils, and that work deserves support."

The works are due to take around 6 weeks in total, and there will be temporary traffic restrictions and lights in place on the affected section of Cheriton High Street throughout that period.
