Tim Prater
Tim Prater is the only County Councillor in Shepway to give local residents their say on local grant funding.

"You Decide" returned to Folkestone West for 2012 - with more money than ever!

"You Decide" days put County Council grant funding decisions in local hands. At the 7th July event at Pent Valley Technology College, over 100 people decided £15,500 of grants for local action. The successful applicants were:

  • Folkestone Rainbow Centre - £1,878
  • 1st Cheriton Scout Group - £2,000
  • Working Wardrobe - £1,970
  • Skillnet - £2,000
  • Folkestone and Hythe Sea Cadets - £2,000
  • KCA - £1,787
  • Folkestone Nepalese Community - £500
  • Shorncliffe Miltary Wives Choir - £2,000
  • Church Street Project - £1,365

In December, ANOTHER £10,000 will be up for grabs: decided by YOU. The December event will be on 12th Dec from 6-9pm at the Tower Theatre, North Road, Folkestone.

Tim says:

"Local people should have a say in where THEIR money is spent. Groups pitch for funding directly to local people.

"There are great events and groups across our community."

Application forms for "You Decide" December 2012 are available online.

Any application should support projects or activities that support Folkestone West residents.

The group may not be based here, but should make it clear why what they do supports local people here. Applicants for grants complete a brief application form. On the day they then have three minutes to put their proposals to the audience.

The audience vote on who will receive grants - and the most popular projects get the cash!
