Cut-back Threat to Flood Defence Funding

The Government has been challenged to protect spending on flood defences and environmental policing after leaked emails from senior officials show sharp planned cuts for the rest of the financial year.

Traffic wardens responsible for ensuring legal parking in Shepway have been caught on camera parked on a double yellow line in Sandgate! At around midday on Tuesday 1 August, the team were snapped parked the lines outside Riviera Court in Sandgate High Street - an offence normally awarded a fine, but seemingly overlooked this time, by themselves...

Cats Protection is urgently appealing for funds to help cope with the vast numbers of kittens that the charity expects to take in during the rest of the summer and early autumn. With up to 7,000 cats in care at any time, this means many cats in Kent will be in care this autumn.

Safety Victory for Firs Lane Play Ground

Following pressure from local councillors, Shepway Council have removed an unsafe climbing frame from the Firs Lane play area in Cheriton. Councillor Peter Gane called the council to find why the gates were locked in July, to be told the equipment had failed County safety tests in APRIL.

Shepway Council fail in duty to play equipment

Three months ago, on 21 April, Kent County Council inspected and declared the play area between Firs Lane and Shaftesbury Avenue in Cheriton unsafe, due to broken protective flooring and an old and worn climbing frame. This information was then passed to Shepway Council, who have taken almost no action. Shepway are quick enough to publicise internal staff problems, but on an important safety issue, they've remained pretty much silent to press and local residents.
