Shepway Council - A Labour Free Zone

Yesterday's by-election result in New Romney Town delivered a body blow to the Labour party in Shepway. Labour lost their only District Council seat in Shepway by a huge margin, where as the Lib Dems held their vote in the face of a vigorous campaign from the other parties.

Compensation for the South East's Rail Passengers on the Right Track

Britain's rail passengers, who suffer delays, look set to be awarded higher levels of compensation, following a vote in the European Parliament. Commenting ahead of tomorrow's (Wednesday's) vote on the legislative package aimed at improving the EU's railways, Shepway's Liberal Democrat MEP, Sharon Bowles heralded the move as a victory for passengers.

Shepway Sea Defences Under Threat?

Conservative Council plans to CUT almost 10% of the Coastal Protection Maintenance Budget have been condemned by local Lib Dems. According to official Council papers, Conservative run Shepway Council agreed in July to divert money from sea defences to subsidise cesspool emptying across the district.

Local campaigner Toni Powell is campaigning for more police on patrol to crack down on rising anti-social behaviour in New Romney. The Lib Dems have also slammed Conservative run Shepway District Council for ignoring calls to buy a new specialist machine to remove graffiti in our area.

Police appeal for information on missing Lydd woman

Kent Police are concerned about the welfare of a woman who did not return her home in Lydd on the evening of Tuesday 6 September. Tanya Smith was last seen leaving the life skills centre in Cobbs Mews, Christchurch Road, Folkestone at 3.30pm. Tanya is 30 years old but has a mental age of eleven.

Police to merge South East Kent and Ashford Policing Areas

Kent Police has announced the first stage of a programme of review and change designed to make sure it is a force fit for the future. Initial plans include reducing the number of policing areas in the county from nine to six, with the target of cutting the time spent on administration and get more officers on to Kent's streets.

Kent Police launch Speedwatch

A new initiative by Kent Police has been introduced to give rural communities the opportunity to help make their villages safer by monitoring traffic speeds on their roads. Speed Watch is designed to give parish councils around the county a chance to sign up to a scheme to record the speed of vehicles travelling through their area.

Shepway Council Fails to Respond to Emails within a Month

Shepway Liberal Democrats have slammed response times to email enquiries made to Shepway Council. An enquiry send by email to Shepway Council send on the 3rd of August and chased on 23rd August still has had no reply (beyond an automated receipt) by the 5th of September - over a MONTH after the initial enquiry.
