I spy a spin. The idea Folkestone "Cliff lift repairs could cost £1 million" (This is Shepway, 8 April, page 3) is simply wrong. This figure is drawn from a Shepway Council draft report in 2004 which was discussing placing a Lottery funding for that amount - to renovate, renew, redevelop enhance the Leas Lift.
The Shepway District Council's Corporate Scrutiny Committee tonight considered the "call-in" of the Cabinet decision of 18 March to cease the operation of the Leas Lift with immediate effect and to terminate the Leas Lift lease.
An open letter signed by 14 out of 18 Folkestone Town Councillors including Tim Prater has slammed the cleaning of local streets, claiming "Shepway Council are failing to keep our streets clean."
The Cheriton High Street layby opposite Tesco's has recently been "spruced up" following many complaints from Cheriton Town Councillor Tim Prater and local residents. Kent County Council have also now confirmed that there is a plan to deal with the issue permanently in this financial year.
The campaign to Save Harcourt School has launched a special campaign song to coincide with the end of the consultation period on the merger of the school. "We Will Stop U" is sung by Harcourt School children, and can be bought on line at www.indiestore.com/harcourtprimary/
