Council Candidate Nominations in Shepway announced for June 4th Elections

The candidates for the June 4th elections to Kent County Council and by-elections to Shepway District Council, Hythe Town Council and Sandgate Parish Council have been released. Following their collapse in vote to under 2% across Shepway in the 2007 District Council elections, Labour have failed to stand a candidate in the Hythe West District Council by-election. Only the Liberal Democrats and Conservatives are standing in all elections across Shepway.

Gurkha killed in Afghanistan by Suicide Bomb

Shepway Lib Dems have learned that another soldier from the 1st Battalion of the Royal Gurkha Rifles was killed yesterday by a suicide bomb in Afghanistan. The Liberal Democrats wish to express our sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

Anger as Government reject 4 out of 5 Gurkha settlement test cases

Gurkha campaigners feel betrayed after the UK Border Agency rejected four out of five test cases for former Gurkha soldiers to settle in the UK. The news comes just one day after Prime Minister Gordon Brown pledged to Gurkha Justice campaigner Joanna Lumley to take the matter into his own hands and come up with a "solution" to the issue of residency rights by the end of May.
