Shepway Council web site downtime

Due to the electrical supply to Shepway civic centre in Castle Hill Avenue, Folkestone, being disrupted this weekend to allow for the connection of a standby generator, the Shepway Council web site www.shepway.gov.uk will be off-line from 5pm Friday 26th September until late Sunday 28th September.

KM Folkestone office escapes closure in "restructuring"

The Kent wide KM Group, is planning to restructure its organisation with the loss of 61 jobs. The company, which runs local newspapers including the Kent Messenger and KM Extra, websites and kmfm radio stations across Kent, says the poor economic climate has caused revenue to drop by 25 to 30 per cent, costing it £9 million in revenue in a full year.

Gurkha Justice campaigner Peter Carroll has issued an plea for evidence to back up the legal team representing the Gurkhas in the current High Court hearing on the lawfulness of the 1997 'cut off' date for citizenship. The case received huge coverage earlier this week when Joanna Lumley and others gave their backing to the cause.

Proud to back the Gurkha cause

It was with great pride, I took part in the demonstration outside the High Court in London this week, standing alongside hundreds of retired Gurkha's. The demonstration had been organised to show the world how badly this country treats its best soldiers, with no right to remain in this country if they retired before 1997, even after giving 24 years of their lives to defend this country.

Retired Gurkhas have been protesting outside parliament against the government's refusal to allow them the right to live in the UK. They have been joined by long term Gurkha campaigner Peter Carroll and actress Joanna Lumley, whose father served with the Gurkhas.

Sandgate Road Repairs to start, and last up to three months

Shepway Councillor Tim Prater has been told that, following a site meeting this morning between Kent Highways and Southern Water amongst others, works will begin tomorrow in Trinity Gardens, related to the issues in Sandgate Road. These are expected to last into next week and then work is expected to commence soon after to repair the sewer in Sandgate Road.

Exposed street light electrics in Sandgate Road repaired

The damaged base of a streetlight in Sandgate Road Folkestone, close to the barriers blocking car access, has been repaired having been reported by local Lib Dem campaigner Gary Fuller. The streetlight had a number of exposed wires and some potentially sharp edges that could be reached by a young child.
