Re-Open Sandgate Road or Fix it - Now!

One of the main approaches to Folkestone - Sandgate Road - has now been closed to traffic for weeks from the junction with Earls Avenue towards Folkestone. However, a walk down Sandgate Road shows there are is no work going on, no holes in the road, no plant or equipment - nothing.

Post Office Sham

The closure of 5 MORE post offices, now means that the Post Office has closed 15 throughout Shepway since 1999, including the Crown Post Office in Folkestone, which is due to close in March 2008.

Town Council Visit Folkestone Academy

A delegation from Folkestone Town Council today visited the Folkestone Academy for a presentation and guided tour with Principal John Patterson. The £38 million Academy opened in September, and the tour was an opportunity to show off some of the facilities at the school.

10 Days Left to Vote in Lib Dem Leadership Contest

Lib Dem members have been reminded to return their ballot papers by Acting Lib Dem Leader Vince Cable. In a message to members, Dr Cable stressed that the ballot closes on 15 December, and all papers must be returned by then.

Conservatives Abandon Hythe West Residents

A Shepway Council publication has confirmed that Shepway District Councillor Linda Oliver is no longer living in Hythe - but is STILL staying on as a Councillor for Hythe West! The update to the Council's "Year Book" on 3rd December confirms that as of 6th December, all correspondence for Cllr Oliver should now be sent to the Civic Centre in Folkestone.

Bowles Takes Shepway Lib Dems Into Europe

Liberal Democrat South East Region MEP Sharon Bowles is playing host to more than 30 Liberal Democrats from the Shepway area this Monday. The trip from Folkestone will be visiting Brussels and will then visit the European Parliament building itself on Monday, before returning to the UK.

Give Our Folkestone Museum Back

Folkestone Town Council has backed a motion proposed by Lib Dem Councillor and Deputy Mayor Emily Sanger calling on Kent County Council (KCC) to work with all interested parties to see the restoration of museum status to Folkestone. The KCC run and owned Folkestone Museum lost its museum registration this month, and it has been downgraded to a "History Resource Centre".

Folkestone Sports Centre Trust won an £57,403 slice of good cause cash from the Big Lottery Fund's regional People's Millions contest. ITV Meridian South East viewers voted for the project to win the award after a nail biting head-to-head contest for community votes screened on Tuesday on ITV Meridian South East regional news.

Folkestone Town Council last night strongly backed a call to oppose cuts at Folkestone Fire station, raise awareness of those proposed cuts and encourage as many people as possible to take part in the public consultation on those cuts.
