New government figures for police forces show Kent Police has deteriorated at investigating crime. Forces were rated for investigating and cutting crime, providing help, resource use, promoting safety, local policing and community confidence in the police.

New web site in fight to safeguard civil liberties

The Liberal Democrats today launched a new anti-ID Card web site, as their latest weapon in the fight against the introduction of compulsory Identity Cards. The Shepway Liberal Democrats backed the new site, as part of their ongoing support for the No2Id campaign.

Euro Commission avoids own goal over UK Football TV broadcasts

Sharon Bowles, Liberal Democrat MEP for Shepway has welcomed the European Commission's statement today regarding the package put forward by the Premier League for the selling of UK football TV rights. Sharon Bowles wrote to Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes saying that by forcing the Premier League to limit ownership of the TV rights to 50%, the auction price was likely to plummet meaning less revenue for premiership clubs.

Free Power Saver Light Bulbs for Shepway Residents

Hundreds of energy-saving light bulbs are being given away by Shepway Council as part of national Energy Saving Week that starts on 24 October. The bulbs, which use less electricity than their traditional counterparts and cost much less to use, are a part of the council's drive to raise awareness of the importance of saving energy.

Shepway recycling fiasco hits 40,000 households

Shepway Liberal Democrat Peter Carroll has slammed Conservative Shepway District Council for the disastrous state of the recycling initiative in the area. The council has just announced that the fleet of special recycling vehicles has had to be withdrawn from service for urgent safety checks.

Folkestone Central need a Local Councillor

In the forthcoming Folkestone Central by-election (13 October) to Shepway District Council, the Conservatives have selected a candidate who lives in Selsted, more than 5 miles from Folkestone. Local residents will have to choose between local Lib Dem Maureen Kincaid Speller, who lives in central Folkestone, and the Tory candidate from the village north of Densole.
