Ross Way Recycling Centre to Reopen
Kent County Council have announced that repair and refurbishment works at the Ross Way Folkestone Household Waste Recycling Centre are largely complete & the centre will re-open on 1st November.

News from Tim Prater
Tim has lived and worked in Sandgate (on Sandgate High Street) since 2004.
A trustee of the Sandgate Heritage Trust, Secretary of the Sandgate Members Club, Treasurer and Trustee of the Chichester Memorial Hall, former Trustee of the Gurkha Memorial Fund and former Governor of St Martin's School, and current Sandgate Speedwatch volunteer, Tim knows and works for the area!
Tim is honoured and delighted to have been elected as:
- Folkestone and Hythe District Councillor (Liberal Democrats) for Sandgate & West Folkestone;
- Sandgate Parish Councillor (Independent) for Sandgate Village;
- Folkestone Town Councillor (Liberal Democrats) for Folkestone Harvey West;
- Hythe Town Councillor (Liberal Democrats) for Hythe East.
In May 2023 Tim was re-elected to all the above seats for four more years. At the District Council AGM on 24th May 2023, he became Deputy Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance and Governance.
Previously, Tim has served on Folkestone Town Councillor for Cheriton from 2006-2011, and Shepway District Councillor for Cheriton from 2007-2011, Kent County Councillor for Folkestone West from 2009-2013. He has sat on Sandgate Parish Council for Sandgate Village since 2011, was the Vice Chair of Sandgate Parish Council from 2018-2020 and Chair from 2020 to date.

The £140 universal state pension
Vince Cable has been on Radio 4 this morning outlining plans being brought forward by Lib Dem Government Minister Steve Webb to introduce a universal State Pension of £140 to all those of pensionable age, regardless of previous contributions.

Sandgate Farmers Market Stallholders: 2 October
The regular Sandgate Farmers Market is again open for business this Saturday 2nd October at The Chichester Memorial Hall, Sandgate from 10.00am until 12.00 noon. with free entry, and refreshments available, all local residents are welcome!

The Shepway Community Chest helps local groups to run projects with lasting benefits. It is open to not-for-profit groups including registered charities, community sports clubs and other similarly constituted groups based in and working for Shepway residents.

Sources of funding and funding advice for local community groups
There are a range of potential funding options for local organisations and groups seeking grants and support for their work in Shepway and beyond. Shepway District Council have put together a list of some of those funding sources, in addition to its own Shepway Community chest scheme, grants from Kent County Councillors and grants from some Town and Parish Councils such as Folkestone Town Council and Sandgate Parish Council.
