Lib Dem Group Boycott Shepway Council Feast

All members of the Liberal Democrats on Shepway District Council will not attend the Chairman's Christmas Function scheduled for the evening of 17th December. The move is in the light of the severe economic downturn and the fact that the Council has announced it must find £1.4 million of savings next year.

Shepway Council's huge cuts to balance Council books

Shepway Council are proposing a net cut of £1.4 million to its total budget for the next and future financial years. There are cuts in budgets for new play equipment, provision of new bus shelters and skips, and huge increases in charges for Sandgate car parking.

Christmas at the Folkestone Bandstand

The Leas at Folkestone will be alive with the sound of music on Friday 12 December when Shepway Council hosts its third Christmas bandstand carol concert, supported by Folkestone's Salvation Army Band and the Folkestone Herald.

Safer: Folkestone Town Council to buy Speedwatch equipment

A proposal originally put forward by Folkestone Town Councillor Bev Rolfe for Folkestone Town Council to buy Speedwatch equipment for use in Folkestone was passed last night by Folkestone Town Council. The Speedwatch equipment can be used by volunteer teams at any Police approved location, and displays the speed of any vehicle travelling above the speed limit in that road.

Ashford Tory MP arrested over leaks

The Conservative immigration spokesman and Ashford MP Damian Green, has been arrested in connection with an investigation into a series of leaks from the Home Office. The Liberal Democrats have defended Mr Green, standing up for the right of MPs to release information in the public interest.
