Former Shepway Councillor Dies

Former Shepway District Councillor John Spencer died on the night of Thursday 22 November. Mr Spencer served on Shepway Council from May 1995 to May 2003, as a representative for Hythe East Ward. He also served as Chair of the Development Control Committee.

Leadership Ballot Papers In Post

Ballot papers for the Lib Dem leadership election are now in the post to everyone who was a party member as of October 31st. They should arrive in the next few days and will be accompanied by manifestos from both candidates, and need to be returned in time to arrive by December 15th.

Folkestone Fire Brigade in Cliff Top Dog Rescue

A pleasant walk with the dog led to a cliff top drama in Folkestone when the pet disappeared over a cliff top. Folkestone firefighters were called to cliffs at the Warren at 11.45 this morning with a report of a dog who ran from its lady owner, then fell from the footpath into the steep drop below.

Labour and the Conservatives voted together on Wednesday to deny the public a vote on whether or not the UK should remain in the European Union. A Liberal Democrat amendment to the Queen's Speech laid out proposals for a referendum on the UK's continued membership of the European Union.

The Audit Commission have agreed that the Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) re-assessment of Shepway Council can go ahead early next year. Shepway were classified as a "Weak" Council in 2004.
