Local residents are leading an application to see Sandgate Escarpment registered as a Village Green. Registration would add further protection to access to the area which has been open for years for residents and visitors to enjoy, on the wooded hillside below Shornecliffe Barracks and rising above Military Road, Sandgate.
The Folkestone Macmillan Art Show is coming to Georges House Gallery, 8 High Street, Folkestone from Friday 17th to Tuesday 28th February 2012. It brings together a vibrant collection of work from over 40 talented, Kent-based artists with an affinity to Folkestone and the surrounding area. Georges House Gallery is located a few minutes from the picturesque harbour at the top of the seaside town's famous windy, cobbled street. The gallery will be open 10am - 5pm every day for the duration of the show.

10th February is the birthday of Samuel Plimsoll, 1824-1898, 'The Sailor's Friend', a national hero in his lifetime, first president of the National Union of Seamen and saviour of countless lives as the man who gave his name to the Plimsoll Line.
Kent Highways are planning to take up the existing concrete slabs and resurface the footway along Bouverie Road West, creating a smooth even surface. The works are programmed to start on the 6th February 2011 for a period of approximately 2 weeks.

After hearing many rumblings over the last few months of the proposal to change Tram Road from a one way system into a two way road I heard from several local residents that there was to be an exhibition to showcase the changes. A few local residents had also received letters explaining this, and there was a small article (although publishing the wrong opening times!) appeared in the Folkestone Herald.

The draft Kent County Council budget for 2012/13 has been released. With the headlines reading a zero rise in Council Tax, many millions cut from the budget and more, there will be lots of detailed reading to do over the Christmas and New Year period in the run up to the Council agreeing the budget in February.
