Sandgate's Chichester Hall have purchased a table tennis table, and are keen to hear from anyone who would like to organise sessions, particularly for Sandgate's young people, to use the table - maybe setting up a club or drop-in event.

Snow Update from Kent County Council - Thursday 2 December [4pm]

Kent Highways are reporting that as of now, all primary routes / roads in Shepway are open and passable with care. Crews are patrolling secondary routes and ploughing and salting as necessary. Snow drifting has been cleared at Court at Street, Aldington, and Shepway DC have assisted with some primary carriageway salting / gritting in Folkestone.

Southeastern train service update for Kent [2 December]

Southeastern trains are advising on their website (www.southeasternrailway.co.uk) that they are operating an extremely limited number of services from a contingency timetable today, and that most mainline lines of route do NOT have any services.

Update from Southeastern trains, Midday, 1 December: We are advised by the Met Office that more snow is expected today and rail services in and out of London are likely to be severely disrupted. Our advice to commuters using Southeastern services who managed to get into work today, is to leave London as early as possible.

Sandgate commemorates William Wilberforce

Today a plaque, designed and funded by the Sandgate Society to commemorate William Wilberforce's part in the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade in 1807, was erected on the North Lane side of the Sandgate Chichester Hall.

Following its launch last month to showcase Shepway's tourism potential to major UK and foreign tour operators attending London's World Travel Market (November 8 -11), the 32-page full-colour guide is now in process of distribution via strategic tourist information centres and other outlets in Britain and the near-Continent.
