Monk replaced by Love as Deputy Leader of Shepway District Council

David Monk has been ousted as the Deputy Leader of Shepway District Council, and has been replaced by Rory Love. In an email to Councillors and staff today, Conservative Council Leader Robert Bliss gave details of the change and the full list of responsibilities for the 10 strong cabinet. The Cabinet was extended from 9 to 10 last week with the addition of Alan Clifton-Holt.

There has been a rise in the number of children applying for a Kent primary school place compared to a year ago. 14,920 applications for school places were received by the January closing date - an increase of 190.

West Hythe worries as KCC can't fund traffic scheme

Residents are concerned as vehicles continue to speed along West Hythe Road. Following a meeting with Kent Highways it became clear the funding of a traffic calming scheme would prove difficult. Even providing a modern and inexpensive, solar-powered vehicle speed indicator will not be forthcoming from the County funds.

Prater and Dean Push for Fuller Disclosure of Kent County Council Expenditure

Liberal Democrat County Councillors Tim Prater and Trudy Dean have submitted a motion to the next full Kent County Council meeting calling for all items of revenue expenditure by the Council above £1,000 to be published. The proposals mirror the actions of the Greater London Authority, who took a similar step after Mayor Boris Johnson was elected.
