Shepway To Be Hit By Tory Garden Tax

Shepway Council confirmed last night that an annual £35 fee would be charged for the green garden waste recycling bins, on top of the Council tax levied by Shepway. Taken with the expected tax increase which Shepway will set in February, a household choosing to keep their brown-top bin in recycling will see their Shepway Council tax move from £203 this year to a combined Council & Garden Tax of £247 next year - a record 21.7% increase.

Stack in Operation: Folkestone and Hythe cut-off

Operation Stack (the closure of sections of the coast-bound M20) is again bringing chaos across Folkestone and Hythe. Phase 1 of Operation Stack (M20 closure Eastbound from J11 to J12) has been in place since yesterday as cross-channel services were disrupted by high winds. The backlog from that disruption and new delays due to a blockade of Calais by French fishermen has caused the implementation of the second stage of Operation Stack (closure Eastbound J8 Maidstone to J9 Ashford).

Severe Weather (Rain) Warning

Severe Weather Warning for Shepway

The Met Office have issued a severe weather warning for Kent, predicting a 60% chance of heavy and persistent rain to spread across Kent from the west during Tuesday 15th January, with up to 25mm likely in places. That rain will be accompanied by strong southerly winds with gusts to gale or severe gale force over South Eastern England.
