Guerrilla Gardening: Lib Dem Team Clean Up Cheriton Rec Land Threatened by Shepway Council

An action day in Cheriton, Folkestone on Sunday 2 September saw Lib Dem Councillors and others battling to bring part of Cheriton Rec back to its best after months of neglect by Shepway Council. The area of park between Weymouth Road and the Cheriton Bowls club has been un-cut for months, and Shepway Council have now submitted a planning application to build 6 houses on the site.

Labour Fall Below 2% of the vote in Shepway

Detailed research by the Liberal Democrats into the May election results across Shepway has shown that Labour got less that 2% of the valid votes across the district. Labour came SIXTH in terms of their vote across the area, trailing the Conservatives, Liberal Democrats, Shepway Independents, People First and Independents!

4 Kent Local By-Elections in September

Following the disqualification of a Conservative councillor for failing to sign her papers of acceptance, there will be a by-election for Pantiles and St Mark's Ward of Tunbridge Wells Borough Council on 13th September. There are also a series of by-elections in Dover on 27th September: in Maxton, Elms Vale and Priory District Ward, Aylesham District Ward and the Dover Town County Electoral Division. Fuller Joins Calls For Replacement of Barrel Barrier

Lib Dem Folkestone Town Councillor Gary Fuller has joined calls for the replacement of the oil drum barrier across Rendezvous Street in the town centre. Cllr Fuller who represents Harvey Central Ward, which covers the town centre area, has had a number of complaints about the barrier, which he described as an eyesore.

New research from Halifax Estate Agents highlights that 20 university towns across the UK recorded an increase in house prices of 20% or more over the past year, close to double the nationwide increase of 11%. With University Centre Folkestone due to welcome its first degree students in September, many believe local property prices are likely to be boosted further.
