Wax on Wax off: young people from Catch22 volunteer their time to restore unique local Old Fire Station

8 young people from Catch22 Folkestone will spend 2 days restoring the architecturally unique wooden panelled Public Reading Room in The Old Fire Station, Sandgate. The panelled walls and roof within the listed building, which is set in a Conservation area, has not been polished since the 1980s. The young people will be restoring the room on the 28th and 29th of March 2013 to ensure it looks spick and span for an exhibition over the Easter weekend.

Wednesday's Budget announced that the Income Tax Personal Allowance will be raised to £10,000 in April 2014 - one year sooner than had been expected. This means 37,600 ordinary working people in Shepway will get a further Income Tax cut, bringing the total tax cut to £700 a year since Liberal Democrats joined the Coalition Government.

Red Arrows to return to Folkestone in June

STAR performer at last year's Folkestone Airshow, the RAF Red Arrows aerobatics team is to return for the 2013 event, organiser Folkestone Town Centre Management Ltd (FTCM) has announced. On Saturday, June 8, it will be the first major display of the year for the team whose high-speed manoeuvres in 'diamond nine' formation have thrilled air show audiences all over the world.

Introducing New Sandgate Parish Councillor Vannessa Reay

Following the resignation of Conservative Councillor Nigel Griffith from Sandgate Parish Council, a vacancy was declared and nominations opened. At the close of nominations, the only nominated candidate was Sandgate Village resident and Lib Dem candidate Vannessa Reay. As such, Vannessa was declared a new Councillor for Sandgate Village on Sandgate Parish Council as of 18th March, joining the existing Lib Dem group of Tim Prater and Gary Fuller.
