Last night, by 27 votes to 12, Shepway District Council gave Lydd Airport (LAA) the go ahead to expansion plans, against expert advice from its own advisers, officers, Natural England, the RSPB and others.

Veolia Water Southeast (VWSE) has announced that its prices for 2010/2011 will rise by 1.5%. Ofwat has approved an increase of 1.2% in charges to allow the company to continue with its extensive capital investment programme with an additional allowance for inflation of 0.3%. The 2010/2011 charges were agreed with the regulator last year as part of a five year plan covering the period 2010-2015. The rises for 2010/11 will take effect from the beginning of April.
Folkestone Invicta are inviting all local residents to pay their respects to Rifleman Peter Aldridge, the Folkestone based soldier recently killed while on service in Afghanistan. A minutes silence will be held in advance of their home game this Saturday against Croydon, and to encourage attendance, the club are offering free entry for the game.
Kent Highway Services have identified dangerous road depressions on Sandgate Road, Folkestone and have given agreement for Southern Water to put in place an emergency road closure to carry out investigation and remedial works to the sewer and carriageway. Works will commence on Tuesday 23 February 2010 and are estimated to be take 2 weeks to complete, depending on investigation finding.

Three fire appliances were sent to the building in Marine Terrace, Folkestone just before 8.30pm on 18 February after control room operators received emergency calls from a passer-by who had spotted smoke pouring from a second floor window.
