Rumours of Kent Districts merging to form Unitary Authorities have been around for years (some with decent evidence, some with less). This week there are press reports of another attempt: this time for an East Kent and Channel authority incorporating Shepway, Thanet, Canterbury, Ashford and Dover.
KCC Trading Standards have received reports of scam telephone calls claiming to be from HMRC, requesting outstanding payments from residents or offering rebates.
Kent Highways are intending to resurface Military Road (Sandgate) from its junction with Sandgate High Street to the junction with North Road.
The Shepway Community Chest scheme is now open and the deadline for completed applications is 5pm on Monday 1 August 2016.

Despite residents, campaigners and councillors from Folkestone and Sandgate insisting that for the new Shorncliffe development to go ahead required a widened road bridge at Horn Street, Shepway Development Control decided... against making that a condition on the developer.
There has been an increase in ther number of large lorries parking (and often "overnighting") on Sandgate Esplanade.
