Dover lorry park plan "facing hurdles"

Plans for a lorry park "buffer" zone to ease the problems caused by lorry parking and Operation Stack from the Port of Dover have come up against "considerable hurdles" according to Dover Harbour Board's Chief Executive.

De Menezes Police man shoots man dead in New Romney

A man has been shot dead by police during a Flying Squad operation to prevent a suspected armed robbery attempt in New Romney. The policeman involved in the shooting has since been named as one of the two officers who shot Charles De Menezes last year at Stockwell Tube Station.

Kent Police lose out on merger costs

Kent Police have lost £52,000 of the money they spent preparing for the force mergers which abandoned in July. The mergers were opposed by the Liberal Democrats and the dropping of the merger plans welcomed. It has now been revealed that of the total £152,042 that Kent Police spent on preparing for the merger, only £100,000 will be refunded by the Government.

Lib Dem and anti-ID card campaigner Darren Briddock is one of the first in the country to receive a new "Chipped" passport. The new passport contains limited "biometric" data on a machine readable chip, and have only been issued in the UK for the past few weeks.

Threat to Ashford Eurostar service would be a blow to Folkestone - Bowles

Shepway MEP Sharon Bowles has written to Eurostar to press them to retain services from Ashford following the announcement that services from the station will be slashed. Eurostar have announced that the Ashford to Brussels service would be cut completely whilst the number of trains from Ashford to Paris will fall to three.
