A man has been shot dead by police during a Flying Squad operation to prevent a suspected armed robbery attempt in New Romney. The policeman involved in the shooting has since been named as one of the two officers who shot Charles De Menezes last year at Stockwell Tube Station.
Kent Police have lost £52,000 of the money they spent preparing for the force mergers which abandoned in July. Shepway MEP Sharon Bowles has written to Eurostar to press them to retain services from Ashford following the announcement that services from the station will be slashed. Eurostar have announced that the Ashford to Brussels service would be cut completely whilst the number of trains from Ashford to Paris will fall to three.
